The challenge

Every beverage order carries rules a T-shirt doesn't.

Most ERPs treat a case of wine or a pack of canned cocktails like any other parcel. Beverage brands have to check every order before it ships, and track every run before it sells.

01

Where it can ship

Each state sets its own rules for shipping wine, spirits, and other alcohol direct to consumers. An order to a state you aren't licensed in has to stop before it's picked, not after it's in a truck.

02

Who signs, which carrier

Alcohol needs an adult signature at delivery, and not every carrier or service accepts it. Someone has to set the right signature and the right carrier account on every label.

03

When it's safe to send

A case sitting in a hot depot over a weekend is a case you replace. Heat and transit days decide when an order should ship, not just whether it can.

04

Co-packed production

Most beverage brands don't own a production line. Your cans, glass, and liquid sit at a co-packer, runs come back short, and the paperwork arrives as PDFs in someone's inbox.

05

Cases, packs, and mixed cases

The same product sells as a single, a four-pack, a case, and part of a mixed case or club box. Every format draws from the same stock.

06

Distributors and retail

Distributors and retail accounts buy by the case on their own pricing and terms, from the same inventory your DTC store is selling.

Destination rules

Check the state before you pick.

Automation rules look at the destination state and ZIP code on every sales order and shipment. You keep the list of where you can ship wine, spirits, or canned cocktails; Fulfil acts on it.

  • ✓Stop an order at confirmation when it ships to a state you can't serve
  • ✓Route orders to the warehouse licensed for that destination
  • ✓Put shipments on hold with a named reason your team can filter and clear
  • ✓Validate addresses and hold the ones that come back invalid
Rule example
When
Customer shipment / Waiting
If
Line item matches Alcohol SKUs
Destination state is in Do-not-ship list
Then
Put on hold: Restricted state
Post to Slack: #compliance
The shipment stays off the pick list until someone on your team reviews it.

Signature and carriers

Adult signature on every label.

Each shipment carries a delivery signature setting. Set it with a rule on anything containing alcohol, and Fulfil passes it to the carrier when it buys the label.

  • ✓Adult signature on UPS, FedEx, and other carriers that offer it
  • ✓Connect multiple UPS or FedEx accounts and assign alcohol to the one set up for it
  • ✓Rate shopping that prices the signature service into every rate it compares
Shipment example
Order: 6-bottle mixed case
Customer: Denver, CO
Contains alcohol
Destination state: allowed
Request confirmation: adult signature
Carrier: alcohol shipping account
Label bought: signature requirement sent to the carrier

Weather holds

Hold the case until it's safe to ship.

Hold reasons and automation rules let you pause shipments to hot regions without pulling orders apart by hand.

  • ✓Hold shipments by destination state or ZIP code
  • ✓Release after a set duration, or wait for your team to release them
  • ✓Use day-of-week conditions so ground orders don't sit in a depot over the weekend
  • ✓Request Saturday delivery from UPS or FedEx when rate shopping
Hold queue example
Phoenix, AZHeat hold
Las Vegas, NVHeat hold
Seattle, WAReady to ship
Boston, MAReady to ship
Held, not cancelled. Release the shipments when the weather turns.

Co-manufacturing

Run production at your co‑packer.

Outsourced manufacturing orders track the cans, glass, and liquid sitting at your co-packer, consume them when the run starts, and record the co-packer's fee against the run.

  • ✓Bills of materials and per-run fees for each co-packer, invoiced or raised as a purchase order
  • ✓Adjust completed quantities or reduce the yield when a run comes back short
  • ✓Assign a lot number to every run automatically, and trace each lot to the shipments it went out on
  • ✓Receive into a quarantine location so stock stays off your channels until it clears quality checks
  • ✓Supplier portal for suppliers to acknowledge purchase orders, add tracking, and upload documents
Production run example
Margarita canned cocktail, 12 oz
Co-packer: contract cannery
Lot 6187A
Planned24,000 cans
Completed23,280 cans
Inputs consumedCans, ends, base, juice
Co-packer feeInvoiced on completion
Next: quarantine until QA release, then transfer to your 3PL

Cases, packs, and clubs

Sell the case. Count the unit.

Mixed cases, variety packs, sampler packs, and club boxes are bundles: one SKU on your storefront, fulfilled as individual bottles or cans. A unit sold on its own and a unit inside a mixed case draw from the same stock.

  • ✓Unit-level inventory behind every mixed case, variety pack, and club box
  • ✓Group club releases into shipping batches for batch picking
  • ✓Flag gift orders and add gift packaging or instructions automatically
  • ✓Inventory checks and channel settings to keep flash sales from overselling
Bundle example
Fall Club Mixed Case (6):
  • 2 × Pinot Noir
  • 2 × Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 1 × Chardonnay
  • 1 × Rosé
Each bottle also sells on its own. Fulfil reserves from one pool of stock.

Distributors and retail

Sell through distributors. From the same inventory.

Distributor, retail, and DTC orders run in one system, so a distributor order and a Shopify order draw from the same available stock.

Pricing and orders

✓Customer-specific price lists and payment terms for each distributor and retail account
✓Reserve stock for an upcoming distributor order so DTC can't sell through it
✓Native EDI for retail partners: purchase orders, ship notices, and invoices

Cases, lots, and tax

✓Case pack and pallet quantities passed to EDI trading partners and 3PLs
✓First-expired, first-out picking, with a minimum remaining shelf life per channel
✓Sales tax reporting through Avalara, TaxJar, or Numeral

FAQ

Questions? Answers.

What is the best ERP for beverage brands?
Fulfil is an ERP for beverage brands selling direct and through distributors: wine, spirits, ready-to-drink cocktails, hard seltzer and kombucha, and non-alcoholic drinks. State shipping rules, adult signature requests, weather holds, co-manufacturer production runs, lot tracking, and distributor price lists run in one system alongside your Shopify store. Splash Wines, Scout & Cellar, Wine Insiders, Wine Access, Gratsi, Winc, and more run on Fulfil.
Can Fulfil stop orders to states we can't ship alcohol to?
Yes. Automation rules check the destination state and ZIP code on every sales order and shipment. Depending on how you set it up, a rule can stop the order at confirmation with an error, route it to a different warehouse, or put the shipment on hold with a reason your team can filter on. You maintain the list of states; Fulfil enforces it.
Does Fulfil support adult signature on delivery?
Yes. Every customer shipment has a Request Confirmation field that holds the delivery signature option, and an automation rule can set it on every shipment that contains alcohol. Fulfil passes the option to the carrier when it buys the label. Adult signature is available on UPS, FedEx, and other carriers and shipping platforms that offer it. When Fulfil rate shops, it includes signature services in the rate it compares.
Can we hold shipments during hot weather?
Yes. Create a hold reason, then add an automation rule that puts matching shipments on hold by destination state or ZIP code. Holds can release after a set duration or wait for someone on your team to release them. Rules can also look at the day of the week, so you can stop ground shipments from sitting in a depot over a weekend.
Does Fulfil work with co-manufacturers and co-packers?

Yes. Outsourced manufacturing orders track production at your co-packer: Fulfil reserves the cans, glass, and liquid you sent them, consumes those inputs when the run starts, and records the co-packer's fee from the routing as a supplier invoice or purchase order.

When the run finishes, adjust the completed quantity or reduce the yield to match what the co-packer actually produced. An automation rule can assign a lot number to each run, and finished goods move from the co-packer's location to your warehouse or 3PL on an internal shipment.

Can we keep product on quality hold before it sells?
Yes. Receive finished goods into a quarantine location. Stock there stays in your inventory valuation but does not sync to Shopify, Amazon, or other sales channels and cannot be allocated to customer shipments. Move it into sellable stock once it clears your checks.
How does Fulfil handle mixed cases and club shipments?
Mixed cases, variety packs, and sampler packs are set up as bundles: one SKU on your storefront, fulfilled as individual units. Fulfil keeps inventory at the unit level and explodes the bundle into its components at fulfillment, so a bottle or can sold on its own and one inside a mixed case draw from the same stock. Club and release shipments can be added to shipping batches for batch picking.
Can Fulfil handle distributors and retail accounts alongside DTC?
Yes. DTC, club, distributor, and retail orders run in one system. Apply customer-specific price lists, set payment terms per account, reserve stock for an upcoming distributor order, and connect retail partners over native EDI. Case pack and pallet quantities pass to EDI trading partners and 3PLs, and a minimum remaining shelf life per channel keeps short-dated lots away from wholesale accounts.
Does Fulfil replace our alcohol compliance provider?

No. Fulfil is not a licensing, volume-limit, or excise-filing tool. Your compliance provider and counsel decide where and how much you can ship. Fulfil enforces those decisions on every order and shipment: destination rules, signature requests, carrier assignment, and holds.

For sales tax, Fulfil integrates with Avalara, TaxJar, and Numeral to report shipped orders for filing.

Agentic ERP

Run it with your own AI agents.

Let AI do the busywork. Ask Claude or ChatGPT over MCP which shipments are on a heat hold, how many cans came back from the last co-packer run, or what's reserved for a distributor, in plain English, straight from the tools your team already works in.
