Agriculture & Garden

The operations backbone for
agriculture & garden brands.

Lot-tracked bulk seed, country-of-origin and expiry tracking, variant-level availability for pre-selling live plants, and bundle and BOM management for garden tool kits.

The challenge

Operational complexity unique to agriculture & garden.

Garden and agriculture brands juggle bulk seed with different lot numbers and countries of origin, live and perishable inventory, in-house production, and high-volume fulfillment from their own warehouse. Generic ERPs weren't built for it.

Bulk seed, many lots and origins

Seed arrives in bulk from different suppliers, with different lot numbers and countries of origin. You need to trace every retail packet back to the intake it came from, for organic certification, customs, and recall readiness.

Live and perishable inventory

Live plants and seed have viability windows and unpredictable availability. Selling them means pre-selling stock that isn't picked yet and shipping the freshest lots first, logic that breaks standard availability rules.

Make, repack, and fulfill at scale

You produce garden tools, repack bulk seed into retail units, and ship live plants, all from your own warehouse and across your sales channels. Disconnected systems mean mispicks, late shipments, and reconciliation pain.

Seed traceability

Trace every packet back to the lot it came from.

Fulfil tracks inventory by lot number, the same thing as a batch number, so each intake of bulk seed carries its own identity through receiving, production, and fulfillment. Lot Management Policies let you require lots by product, warehouse, or location, and you can import intake lots by CSV.

Every product also records its country of origin for customs, alongside HS codes and origin-based duty rates, so seed imported from multiple countries stays accurate across cross-border shipments and duty calculations.

  • Lot (batch) tracking from seed intake to finished retail packet
  • Country of origin, HS codes, and origin-based duty rates on every product
  • Traceability that supports organic certification and recall readiness
  • CSV import of intake lots with lot number and expiry date
Lot traceability chain
Bulk intake — LOT-A2451 Origin: Italy
25 kg heirloom tomato seed received, expiry tracked
Repack — 500 × 50-seed packets Lot carried through
UOM conversion from kg to count, lot identity preserved
Shipped to customer
Every order traceable to LOT-A2451 and its country of origin

Live & perishable inventory

Pre-sell live plants without overselling.

Every channel listing has a configurable availability source, set at the product-variant level. Sell live plants on incoming stock with the "Quantity Available - Outbound + Inbound" source, which pre-sells inbound inventory while still accounting for outbound commitments, so different products can compute availability in the way that fits them.

For seed and live plants with viability windows, Fulfil assigns lots in first-expired, first-out (FEFO) order automatically. A configurable minimum shelf life keeps stock that is too close to its sell-by or germination window from shipping.

  • Availability source configured per product variant, per channel
  • Pre-sell incoming stock with inbound-aware availability
  • Automatic FEFO lot assignment for perishable seed and plants
  • Minimum shelf life blocks near-expiry lots from shipping
"One feature that Fulfil really stood out with, that surprisingly not a lot of other ERPs allow, is the ability to push different inventory availability calculation methods at the product variant level. This was a must since we sell live plants. It's allowed us to pre-sell. It's allowed us to be way, way more adaptable and has really given us an advantage."

Repack & produce

Buy in bulk, sell in packets, build your own tools.

Buy seed in bulk by weight and sell it by count or volume in retail packets. Set up a custom unit-of-measure category once with your conversion factors, and Fulfil applies them automatically between purchase and sale units when inventory is received and sold.

For garden tools and seed kits, Fulfil handles production from simple kitting and assembly to multi-step manufacturing: bills of materials, production and work orders, and bundles that sell as a single SKU and explode into components at fulfillment. Production runs in-house or through a contract manufacturer.

  • Unit-of-measure conversion: buy by weight, sell by count or volume
  • BOMs, production orders, and work orders for garden tools
  • Bundles and kits that explode into components on fulfillment
  • Make in-house or outsource to a contract manufacturer
One product, two units
Purchase UOM Kilograms (bulk)
Sales UOM 50-seed packet
Conversion Automatic on receipt & sale
Garden tool kit BOM
  • Sold as one SKU, exploded into components at fulfillment
  • Component-level stock and cost tracking

Margin visibility

Know your true margin on every product.

Imported seed carries freight, duties, and brokerage before it ever reaches a packet. Fulfil capitalizes landed costs into each product's weighted-average cost, so those costs flow through to cost of goods sold when the product ships, not into a separate spreadsheet.

Gross profit is reported by channel and period, giving you a truer read on which products, lots, and channels actually make money.

  • Landed cost (freight, duties, insurance, brokerage) capitalized into cost
  • Weighted-average cost flows automatically into COGS on shipment
  • Gross profit reporting by channel and period
  • Estimated vs actual landed cost reconciliation
Landed cost into COGS
Seed purchase price Base cost per kg from supplier
+ Freight, duty, brokerage Allocated by value, volume, or unit
= Weighted-average unit cost True landed cost per unit

FAQ

Questions? Answers.

What is the best ERP for agriculture and garden brands?
Fulfil is built for agriculture and garden brands managing lot-tracked bulk seed, live and perishable inventory, garden tool production, and omnichannel fulfillment across Shopify and Amazon.
How does Fulfil track lot numbers for bulk seed?
Fulfil tracks inventory by lot number (also called a batch number). Lot Management Policies let you require lots by product, warehouse, or location, and you can import intake lots by CSV with lot number and expiry date. This gives you traceability from finished packet back to the seed intake it came from, which supports organic certification and recall readiness.
Can Fulfil record country of origin for imported seed?
Yes. Every product carries a country of origin field for customs, alongside HS codes and origin-based duty rates. When you import seed from multiple countries, each product records where it was produced so cross-border shipments and duty calculations stay accurate.
Does Fulfil handle seed germination dates or product expiry?
Yes. Lots can carry an expiry date, and Fulfil assigns lots in first-expired, first-out (FEFO) order automatically during shipment. A configurable minimum shelf life blocks lots that are too close to their sell-by or germination window from shipping, set per lot policy, per channel, or per order line.
Can Fulfil pre-sell live plants before they are in stock?
Yes. Each channel listing has a configurable availability source, set at the product-variant level. The 'Quantity Available - Outbound + Inbound' source lets you pre-sell incoming inventory while still accounting for outbound commitments, so you can pre-sell live plants without overselling current stock.
Can Fulfil buy seed in bulk and sell it in retail packets?
Yes. Fulfil converts units of measure between how you buy and how you sell. To convert across measurement types, such as buying seed in bulk by weight and selling it by count or volume in retail packets, you set up a custom unit-of-measure category with the conversion factors once, and Fulfil then applies them automatically when inventory is received and sold.
Does Fulfil produce garden tools and assemble kits?
Yes. Fulfil handles production from simple kitting and assembly to multi-step manufacturing with bills of materials, production orders, and work orders. Sell a garden tool set or seed kit as a single SKU and have it explode into components at fulfillment. Production can run in-house or be outsourced to a contract manufacturer.
Does Fulfil track landed cost and margins for garden products?
Yes. Landed costs, including inbound freight, customs duties, insurance, and brokerage, are capitalized into each product's weighted-average cost and flow through to cost of goods sold when inventory is sold. Gross profit is reported by channel and period, giving you a truer view of profitability.
How does Fulfil compare to NetSuite for agriculture and garden brands?
Legacy ERPs like NetSuite require expensive customization to handle lot-tracked seed, variant-level availability for live plants, bulk-to-retail unit conversion, and garden tool production. Fulfil includes lot tracking, configurable availability sources, UOM conversion, manufacturing, and native Amazon and Shopify integrations out of the box. Brands typically go live on Fulfil in weeks, not months.
